Energy Packed Antioxidant Meal: Acai Superfood

Acai has become one of those superfoods that is viral. Companies like Sambazon dominate the market of this awesome new food. It can be consumed in many ways including smoothies, bowls, frozen popsicles even. I am going to show you a quick and super easy meal that makes a great lunch to keep you boosted and energized for the second half of your day. If I can make it, anybody can!

Acai:

There are a variety of brands and different flavors to choose from. Personally, I like Sambazon’s “original blend,” some of the crazy flavors start to get funky and I don’t know whats going on so I stick to original. You can do whatever quantity you want. I normally do two of these frozen packs for one bowl, but I’m 19 years old, 6’3″, 180lbs and I like to eat lol.

Directions- pop these frozen açaí sticks in the blender, add a liquid, I normally use almond or coconut milk but you can use juice and water too ( I find using all juice to be too sugary so I water it down ), and blend away!

Now that you’ve blended to the consistency you want for your bowl, its time to add some healthy toppings.

Granola:

Hemp and flax seed granola is a great source of fiber and protein to add to your bowl. It gives it a hardy taste and will fill you up more than if you eat one without it. My personal favorite brand I recommend is Hemp Hearts Granola, its awesome.

Strawberries:

One of the best fruits of all time, strawberries have endless benefits to our bodies. They can improve eyesight, strengthen the immune system, protect your heart, and are rich in vitamin C which can enhance cognitive functions. Plus they taste amazing.

Blueberries:

Blueberries contain iron, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and vitamin K. Each of these is a component of bone structure. It is researched that adequate intake of vitamin K can improve you bodies ability to absorb calcium and may reduce calcium loss. Not to mention they improve skin, mental health, prevent cancer and lower blood pressure.

Bananas:

Bananas are one of the most widely eaten fruits in the world, and for good reason. According to Medical News Today, eating them could reduce the risk of cancers and asthma and lower blood pressure. On top of that they are high in potassium and can help prevent your muscles from cramping after a long workout or hunt.

Coconut:

Dried shredded coconut flakes are a great addition to your bowl. They are good for your heart, anti-bacterial, and studies show they can even help you lose weight. Opt for unscented flakes if you can find them.

Honey:

Last but not least, our topping on it all, HONEY. An amazing simple sugar that tastes oh so good and is so much better for you than processed sugar. I am lucky enough to have a neighbor that has bee boxes and harvests his own honey. When he has too much, guess who is the dumpster for his overflow of fresh honey! If you’re going to eat sugar, this is the form to do it in.

So there it is, a home based recipe for an awesomely delicious Acai bowl. I only eat this meal during the middle of the day generally because it is high in natural sugars. This being a good and bad thing because it can keep you energized for the rest of your day, but if you eat it for dinner you might be staying up past your bed time. This meal is a bit on the more expensive side because of all the fruits and açaí, however it is a great treat and your body will thank you.
